Sharks' D-men score key goals in Ducks defeat, 3-1

Photo courtesy of AP Photo/Jeff Chiu
In every meeting this season between these Pacific Division rivals, the Sharks have been quick to show the Ducks that last year's playoffs are the past and it's a brand new season; in the past four games, they outscored the Ducks 16-6. And how would the Ducks now fare against the Sharks' newly awoken offensive arsenal?

On Thursday night, the Sharks scored their fifth victory against a team hungry to stay in the playoff race. Yet this time, the scoring came from a blue line that was missing Boyle—the Sharks' top scoring defenseman. Boyle's upper-body injury meant new D pairings for this game, as Demers was called up from Worcester and partnered with Vlasic, moving Vlasic's usual partner Blake up to play with Murray.
In the 1st period the bad blood between the 2 teams became apparent, with Nabby shoving Perry in the face  and Pornstache throwing down—not with Shelley, but with Clowe. Clowe dominated Pornstache in this tangle, landing right-hander after right-hander. Not long after Clowe's fight, Setoguchi drilled Chipchura into the boards, firing up the crowds. At 10:29 another scrap ensued, with Staubitz letting Nick Boynton have it and wrestling him to the ice. The 1st period ended scoreless.

The 2nd period opened with a Sharks power play and saw Vlasic getting shots to the net. Pickles was rewarded for his efforts when he received the puck from Marleau's faceoff win and fired it past Hiller at 2:47—his first goal in 36 games! And that's another schneid busted! Towards the end, captain Blake took a perfect centering pass from Thornton to score his second goal of the week and make it 2-0. No worries over splitting up Pickles and Blake!

Early in the 3rd period the Ducks were able to cut the Sharks' lead in half when Beleskey beat Nabby with a wrist shot. Heatley, eager to add to his 29 goals on his 29th bday, had a round of three shots in a row but none went in. Nearing the end, the Sharks faced a 5-on-6 as the Ducks coach decided to pull Hiller out of the net to add an extra man on the Ducks power play. Bad idea, coach—Marleau ended up scoring an empty-netter with 5.5 seconds left in the game, bringing his goal total of the season to 35! With their terrific, hard-working play tonight despite Boyle's absence, it was no surprise who made the night's 3 stars:

3rd star: Marc-Edouard Vlasic
2nd star: Patrick Marleau
1st star: Rob Blake

Suck it, Ducks! Happy birthday Heater!

Oh what a night, part 2

Four Seasons Album
Sharks Vs  Kings
Sharks landslide win 5-1

A great night for the sharks. This is the second game the sharks won in a landslide. This makes the second of, hopefully, a long winning streak. (not to jinx anything. GOOD JUJU, GOOD JUJU). This was an especially great game for me to watch because I know some kings fans in which I would like to rub this win in their face. ( only because on Jan 4th, this king fan was acting so high an mighty when the sharks lost 6-2 against the kings.) This gloating is well deserved. Living in San Diego, you meet a lot of Ducks and Kings fans. But we all know, sharks are where its at. :). anyways. I'm getting off topic.
The Gloating began last Monday, when the Sharks beat the kings 2-1. But you can just imagine the glee and satisfaction now that the sharks beat the the Kings today (Jan 19) 5-1.  Patty leads us off with the first goal of the night. Can I just say that Patty has had a STELLAR season. At the start of the season he was demoted as the sharks captain, but he is doing better than ever. Apparently he has 34 goals this season, 2 more than Crosby!!!!!! Patty has always been one of my favorites. (seto is awesome though :) ASIANS REPRESENT). Boyle, and Clowe both score goals in the first period, leaving the score at 3-0 at the end of the period.
In the Second period, Nabby let one goal pass by, but he is without a doubt the winning goaltender. (Sorry Quick) Nabby had 36 saves during this game. Marleau scores another goal in the second period. (Sharks 4-1).
Clowe finishes the game off with another goal in the 3rd period. YES OH YES, the Sharks were on FIAH tonight. You know you're doing well when the coach your playing against says this, "They're a better team than we are. They've lost two in regulation in their last 17 games. They're just playing better than we are, and they're probably playing the best hockey in the NHL." (Terry Murray-Kings Coach). That is why the sharks are at the top of the NHL standings. YAY.

Allow me to Introduce Myself ----->EM

I'd like to introduce you to the Fierce Bite blog. We are three hockey fans living in the Bay Area. I'm EM. We have two other authors in this blog, but I'll give them the pleasure of introducing themselves. We recently went to our first game (Oilers @ Sharks on 1/02) and it was complete awesomeness, shark chomp and all. Well keep you all updated on hockey news. On a side note, we'd like to introduce ourselves to yall to give you a glimpse of who we are.  We've already posted our first blog on Setoguchi and his recent comeback, but I'm just going to digress a little and tell you how I became a sharks fan.

Maybe because I've grown up in the Bay Area, being a Sharks fan just comes naturally to me. I was just a wee lass, when I started hating the ducks. In the fifth grade a boy, lets call him the ignoramus, LIVING IN THE BAY AREA, decides the Ducks are better than the sharks. OH NO YOU DIDN'T. He lit the fire in me. (the mighty ducks movies probably helped a little) From then on I started collecting hockey cards, and playing hockey in my driveway. (With lefty sticks I might add. :) because my dad decided it was a better deal) We lost countless pucks and tennis balls to the storm drain. So thats how I became a fan. But, how do you become a sharks fan? It's pretty simple. Live in the bay area, watch the games, Embrace the fact that sharks are the best and we're gonna get the Cup. :) Do the shark chomp. Be excited when Seto, or Patty (and any of the Sharks) get a goal. haha. enjoy the blog.

Oh What A Night

Even before the puck drops, you know we are gonna put out the flames. Nabby is going against his old understudy Kipper, and everyone is still riding high from Seto's haircut. As Drew and Randy put it, "Seto's haircut has unleashed the dragon in everyone."

1st Period
The Sharks start out strong with fast passing and moving those legs. There are hits left and right, and you know that the boys are out to get shit done. Not even 5 minutes in and Pavs decides to start a party, making it 1-0.
Some more skating and then Malhotra decides he wants to join the party, 2-0. Staubitz and Prust hug it out, and Staubitz kicks him out of the party. Nichol sees everyone having sooo much fun, decides he wants to join the party, 3-0. Such a banging party that everyone wants to crash it. Good thing Nabby is at the door with the guest list, he's not letting anyone in unless they are on the guest list. This angers the Flames, who look like all they want to do is crash the party.
Sharks lead 3-0

2nd Period
Phaneuf really really wants to join the party, but Nabby says NO! This angers him, so he decides to hug it out with Leach. Clowe goes in the box for roughing, gives the Flames a power play. Sharks get a penalty and    T-Mac is angered, looks like he's about to choke a bitch.
Nabby is still at the door and is blocking pucks left and right. Ortmeyer sees that the fans are hungry, gives them free pizza 4-0. Sharks get a Power Play, and Heatley joins the party, making it 5-0. Some more skating and then Clowe decides to join the party with 1:24 left to go, 6-0. Period ends, but not without some hugging at the blue line.
Sharks lead 6-0.

3rd Period
The Flames decide to put in a new man at the door while Kipper hides in the locker room. I guess the student is no where near the teacher eh?
Drew and Randy give us some Flames tidbits, Telling us the last time the Flames were at San Jose, they had plans to go to Napa Valley and San Francisco after the game. Since they lost 6-1, their coach calls their pilot and has him fly their plane down and pick up the guys in San Jose and takes them home. No fun for you!!!!!
Nabby isn't letting just anybody into the party, keeps the Flames behind the velvet rope.
Seto breaks away with a Flame behind him, joins the party 7-0. Nabby is busy dancing, doesn't see Regehr sneak into the party, 7-1.
This angers Mitchell, decides to hug it out with Bourque, Sharks get a Power Play.
Blake hasn't partied in 16 games, decides to join the party, 8-1. The Sharks aren't taking it easy on the Flames and keep pushing. Heatley is having so much fun, he decides to re-join the party with 5:20 left to go.

 Sharks win 9-1.

Sharks bounce off Bruins loss to propel past Oilers, 4-2

Behold...the power of the dome. Congrats to Seto for breaking his 9-game pointless streak with 2 goals in a 4-2 victory against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday. Was it his newly shaven head that he previously had when he was in juniors in order to end scoring slumps (he scored 2 goals that same night too)? We don't know. In the first period Marleau added to his league-wide goal lead with his 32nd goal of the season. On the heels of Seto's ensuing goal-splosion came Thornton and Murray uniting for a Tic-Tac-Toe goal, and goalie Thomas Greiss dramatically coming far out of the crease to challenge a loose puck and block a shot attempt.
